Assembly had to come into town and fix in
July. Many proposed bills depend on other issues that are
not entirely understood by those requesting the legislation or
by the legislators themselves, so they are permitted to float
through and clog up the system whether they are viable or not.
As in past Center for Politics
events, everyone conducted themselves with a level of decorum
that is sadly missing from political behavior on a regular
basis. Perhaps because people of stature from another
time had come in to join the younger ranks for a frank and open
discussion, the standard of behavior was temporarily raised.
Or perhaps it’s not too much to ask that once a
year, politicians put on their best behavior. At the
Center’s conferences bygones are treated as such, and
staunch members of both parties sit next to each other and
enjoy the political cease fire zone created by Larry Sabato and
the Center for Politics. Wonder if we could get the
Center folks back in the Holy City more often? If only!
WE HAVE A WINNER!
This issue’s winner of the
“Guess Who or What” is Jo Turek, Hopewell Parks and

photo is dedicated to former Hopewell City Manager Clint
Strong, and is the area tourism center in that city.
Congratulations to Jo, and we hope you will be encouraged
to try to guess the “Who or What” in this issue of
the Virginia Review. If you are one of the first five to
correctly do so, you will a free one year subscription!
