Governor Elect Tim Kaine’s Preliminary Schedule for Inagural Events in Abingdon, Williamsburg, and Richmond

“The inauguration is an official function of the General Assembly which decided to hold the ceremony in Williamsburg due to renovations underway at the State Capitol Building. The upcoming swearing in will be the first in Williamsburg since Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated in 1779. The formal swearing in occurs during a joint session of the House of Delegates and Senate. The program includes the administration of the oaths of office by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Attorney General and the inaugural address by the Governor concludes with the inaugural parade.”
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
There will be a pre inaugural ball in Abingdon in Washington County on Saturday, January 7 from 7 to 11 pm. The location was yet to be determined at the time of the release.
On Friday, January 13, from 8 am to 1 pm there will be a Williamsburg Community Service event(s) with the Governor Elect. From 1 to 2 pm will be lunch at Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que with the Williamsburg Community Service Volunteers. From 7:30 until 9:30 that evening there will be an inaugural concert at William and Mary Hall on the Campus of the College of William and Mary.
On Saturday, January 14, the day of the inauguration, from 9:30 to 10:30 am there will be a prayer service, with location to be determined. At noon, the General Assembly convenes for the inaugural swearing in ceremony at the Colonial Capitol.

“Governor Elect Tim Kaine today [November 21] announced a preliminary schedule of inaugural events that will surround his swearing in ceremony on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Colonial Capitol in history Williamsburg. The schedule includes a pre-inaugural ball in Southwest Virginia and inaugural weekend festivities in both Williamsburg and Richmond.
“‘Holding the swearing in ceremony at the Colonial Capitol gives us a wonderful and unique opportunity to celebrate Virginia,’ said Governor Elect Tim Kaine. ‘This inauguration will be historic and we are building a series of events to encourage families from all over Virginia to participate.’
